Training Equipment and Weights
What is included in our training equipment and weights?
The Foundry Mountaineering Club provides a diverse range of training equipment and weights accessible to Club members and participants in instructed and coached sessions. This equipment comprises a campus board, pull-up bars, TRX and gym rings, resistance bands, and a selection of free weights.
The campus board, along with pull-up bars and dip bars, is situated in the Furnace area, while a variety of free weights, pull-up bars, TRX, and gym rings are available on the mezzanine level.
How the risk is managed for Foundry members (unsupervised climbers):
Members are encouraged to only use equipment they are familiar with and have experience using.
If members lack the necessary experience to safely operate the equipment, they are advised to seek instruction.
Regular checks ensure the equipment remains in good condition, and members are encouraged to report any damage to reception.
Members are expected to tidy up equipment after use to minimise the risk of injury.
Unsupervised members under the age of 18 (green and red cards) are not permitted to use the equipment unless supervised by a member over 18.
Regular floor walks are conducted at The Foundry Climbing Centre to ensure the safety and adherence to best practices among all climbers. These observations involve monitoring climbers throughout the centre at regular intervals to ensure they are following established safety protocols, identifying any potential safety hazards or risky behaviours, providing assistance to climbers in need, enforcing rules and regulations, and ultimately enhancing the overall safety of the climbing environment.
For Internal Instructed Sessions (Delivered by Foundry Climbing Coaching Ltd):
Qualified Instructors: Our instructors hold National Governing Body qualifications and undergo regular in-house reviews to ensure competency and adherence to safety protocols.
Equipment Check: Instructors verify that gym equipment is safe to use.
Briefing Compliance: Climbers are expected to follow the instructor's briefing and safety guidelines throughout the session to minimise risks and ensure a safe climbing experience.
